Historically, plastic surgeons have been frustrated in their search for effective techniques and procedures that alleviate significant sun damage and treat aging skin. While facelift surgery works well on jowls and sagging skin, poor solutions remained for a patient with significant superficial signs of age, such as sun damage, discoloration, and fine wrinkles. Today, great strides in skin care have led to the development of chemical peels, which come in array of formulations and concentrations for completely tailored skin rejuvenation.

The VCP has been shown to improve many skin irregularities and concerns, including uneven tone or blotchiness, lines and wrinkles, and diminished texture.
Variable Croton Peel
Dr. Gouverne is pleased to offer the variable croton peel, or VCP, to his Corpus Christi chemical peel patients. This powerful peel was developed in the late 1990s by Dr. Gregory Hetter. This peel offers a number of advantages over previous skin resurfacing procedures, including:
- No change in pigmentation
- Variable penetration prevents unnecessarily lengthy recovery time
- Severely damaged skin is targeted and treated first
- Effective on the face, neck, and décolletage
Although the VCP does not alter the structure of underlying tissues as a surgical facelift does, it can stave off the need for surgery. The VCP has been shown to improve many skin irregularities and concerns, including uneven tone or blotchiness, lines and wrinkles, and diminished texture.
The strength of a VCP can be adjusted based on your own specific needs, and your recovery time will depend on that strength. In general, plan to spend between 5 and 10 days at home after a light or medium peel and longer after a deep peel. Because the effects of the peel are cosmetic and do not cause systemic side effects, many patients choose to work from home during this time.
The results of a VCP generally last longer than those of other peels, with improvements in skin tone and texture still apparent after several years. Although a VCP can produce stunning results on its own, it can also be performed as a complement to other facial procedures, such as brow lift. During your consultation, Dr. Gouverne discusses your goals with you and helps you decide which procedures can offer the best solutions for skin care in Corpus Christi.
