Breast Implant Options
Breast augmentation has been around in one form or another since the end of the 19th century, and much has changed since that time. In the United States today, breast augmentation patients may choose from saline or silicone implants. Both types come in a variety of shapes and sizes, and their safety has been proven by the FDA. The option that's appropriate for you is based on your anatomy and goals — there is no single style that's right for every woman. When considering breast implants at your augmentation consultation in Corpus Christi, TX, Dr. Max Gouverne discusses which options are best suited to your unique needs.

Saline Breast Implants
Saline breast implants are filled with a sterile saltwater solution similar to the fluid found in an IV. During breast augmentation surgery, Dr. Gouverne inserts the empty implants and then uses a fill-tube to fill them to the desired size. When the fill-tube is removed, the implants automatically seal. The saline breast implants Dr. Gouverne uses are manufactured by Mentor®. Saline implants work best in patients who have excellent soft tissue coverage and desire smaller implants.
Silicone Filled Breast Implants
Dr. Gouverne uses Mentor's MemoryGel® breast implants. These silicone-filled implants use a cohesive gel filling that allows them to retain a natural look and feel that mimics natural breast tissue. This type of implant is currently the more popular choice for women who have at least moderate amounts of soft tissue coverage or desire larger implants.
Highly Cohesive Gel Implants
For some women, the best choice for breast implants is highly cohesive gel implants, sometimes called "gummy bear" implants. They are made using high-strength cohesive gel and low-bleed technology. Highly cohesive gel implants hold their shape over time and have extremely little rippling, making them a good choice for very thin women who do not have much soft tissue coverage. Sientra® breast implants are Dr. Gouverne's preferred choice for highly cohesive gel implants.
