Keep in mind that each patient is unique and your results may vary.

You can be confident that we pair the latest techniques with more than 20 years of cosmetic surgery experience.

The Consultation

Each patient has different motivations for choosing breast augmentation. Among other reasons, a woman may consider the surgery to enlarge naturally small or underdeveloped breasts, to restore breast fullness following weight loss, pregnancy, or breastfeeding, or to improve the look of asymmetrical breasts. Whatever your reason, you can be confident that we pair the latest techniques with more than 20 years of cosmetic surgery experience.

Your breast augmentation consultation with Dr. Gouverne is an ideal time to get answers to your questions and learn more about the many choices you'll have prior to surgery. During this appointment, you and Dr. Gouverne discuss your medical history, motivations for surgery, lifestyle, and other relevant topics in order to help him develop a customized surgical approach. Dr. Gouverne examines your breasts to evaluate your natural breast tissue, skin quality, and degree of sagging. In some cases, Dr. Gouverne may recommend a breast lift in addition to or instead of a breast augmentation.

Dr. Gouverne strives to keep each of his prospective patients informed of the details of their surgeries and predicted recovery periods. Although he is happy to offer his guidance, he leaves the final decisions to you to ensure your satisfaction.

The Procedure

Women considering breast implants at the Corpus Christi practice of Dr. Gouverne have plenty of implant options and surgical options to decide upon. The specifics of each breast augmentation procedure vary from surgery to surgery and are dependent on the type of implant used, the incision type, the implant placement, and your own anatomy. Prior to surgery, Dr. Gouverne thoroughly explains the steps of your unique surgery and what you can expect during recovery.

Each surgery begins with an incision. A breast augmentation incision may be made around the areola, along the crease below the breast, or even in the armpit. With proper postoperative care, these incisions heal and fade discreetly. Once the incision is made, Dr. Gouverne creates a pocket in the breast tissue and inserts the implant. If the implant is saline, it is inserted empty and filled once it's in place.

After placing both implants, Dr. Gouverne evaluates them for symmetry and makes adjustments as needed. He then closes the incisions, and the patient is moved to a private recovery area to awaken from anesthesia.

The Recovery

At Max Gouverne Cosmetic Surgery, breast augmentation is an outpatient procedure. After a short period of observation, you are permitted to return home.

Pain and soreness are common for approximately 4 days following surgery, and Dr. Gouverne prescribes narcotic pain medication for use during this time. It's important to carefully follow Dr. Gouverne's instructions when using these medications.

Following surgery, your breasts are bandaged and dressed. Although you may shower 1 day following surgery, you are advised to not remove the tape over the incisions. Dr. Gouverne removes this tape at your 1-week follow-up appointment.

Patient experiences vary after breast augmentation. Although you may return to most light activity as soon as you feel ready, Dr. Gouverne advises patients to take about a week off from work following surgery. It's a good idea to postpone any strenuous activity, such as working out, until Dr. Gouverne advises you that you may do so. Resuming these activities too early may damage your breasts or slow your healing. To learn more about caring for yourself following breast augmentation, check out our postoperative guide.

The results of breast augmentation surgery can last for many years with proper care and adherence to a healthy lifestyle. However, it's important to remember that implants are not lifetime devices. Today's implants have markedly longer lifespans than earlier models, and it's not uncommon for breast implants to remain functional and beautiful for more than a decade.
