The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) is awaiting the results of their annual members’ survey for 2013. While the full results are not yet available, ASPS did offer a sneak peak of what they expect to see.
Breast augmentation is still the most popular cosmetic procedure in the U.S., followed by rhinoplasty, eyelid surgery, liposuction, and facelifts.
ASPS speculates advances in cosmetic procedure technologies are behind the surge in cosmetic procedure growth. Never before have there been so many choices in breast augmentation, injectables, and body sculpting.
One recent advancement in breast implant technology comes in the form of highly cohesive gel implants or Gummy Bear Implants. Highly cohesive gel implants can be an excellent choice for very thin women who do not have much extra body tissue to cover implants. In patients who are extremely thin, macro fat grafting can be used in the breast to help cover breast implants.
Saline implants are still a great choice for some women and are an excellent budget choice.
Memory gel implants are still the most popular choice we see in our practice.
The American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) sponsored a twin study showing the main reason for aging in the face is loss of volume. There are a number of approaches to restore facial volume. Highly purified fat grafting results in more predictability and less cell loss. It provides excellent, youthful results. One technique, fat grafting in the face is popular for men and women who have experienced major weight loss. Restoring volume in the face after weight loss keeps the face in balance with the new, sleeker figure.
Another popular choice in body sculpting is macro fat grafting where large amounts of fat are transferred from one area of the body to other areas such as the buttocks. This is the technique used in the popular Brazilian butt lift.
