Fact: Signs of facial aging are due to volume depletion from loss of facial fat.
In 2013, researchers presented a scientific paper at the annual meeting of the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) in New York. The results were shocking! Researchers presented years of sequential 3-D photographs of individual faces. The measured parameters all showed significant loss of facial volume over time. When the researchers showed each subject’s picture sequentially over time (~15 years), the audience saw that person age in front of their eyes. Many other parameters were looked at; such as the jowls, the bags under the eyes, the sagging of the skin, etc. None were as closely associated with aging as loss of volume. Techniques are now available to combat volume loss. We are witnessing the birth of a new era in the fight against facial aging: Volume Restoration!
The harvesting and re-injecting of fat has been done for years, but was plagued by inconsistent “take”, unpredictable volumes would survive and results were not consistent. Refinement in fractionation of the fat graft is a major improvement over more traditional methods. Now graft take and yields are highly predictable and consistent.
Fat grafting has assumed a more prominent role in our ability to combat the signs of aging by creating a balanced and comprehensive rejuvenation strategy for the face.
Micro Fat Grafting Procedure (MFG)
Fat grafting involves harvesting fat from one part of the body, such as the abdomen, thigh, or buttock area, and re-implanting it into the face or another area that requires plumping, to restore the body’s natural, youthful contours. When used as a facial filler, fat grafting can improve the creased and hollow areas of the face, and add fullness to the cheeks, naso-labial folds, lips, chin, jawline, and beneath the eyes.
Dr. Gouverne utilizes the latest fat grafting techniques in order to maximize the outcome. Adding fat back to the face can even help skin texture and tone, and most importantly volume.
