After finishing his plastic surgery training in Kansas City, Dr. Gouverne moved to Corpus Christi with his wife, Pam, in 1991. Together they have 2 children, Missy and Max Jr.
Dr. Gouverne is certified by The American Board of Plastic Surgery. He is involved in ongoing research related to plastic surgery, and his work has been published in many scientific and scholarly journals.
Dr. Gouverne's primary research is in the field of cosmetic surgery. Under the tutelage of Dr. Jack Hiebert, an expert in the field of cleft lip and craniofacial surgery, Dr. Gouverne trained at the University of Kansas, which is home to the oldest plastic surgery program west of the Mississippi River. He went on to receive additional training from Dr. Ted Lockwood, a pioneer in body contouring surgery. Dr. Lynn D. Ketchum, a nationally renowned plastic surgeon, also taught Dr. Gouverne during his time in Kansas City.
During the course of his career, Dr. Gouverne introduced several new techniques in plastic surgery to Corpus Christi. He leads the first team of surgeons performing microsurgery in Corpus Christi for breast, head and neck, and extremity reconstruction. He was the first plastic surgeon to use endoscopy in his practice, and he's expanded endoscopic techniques to cosmetic surgery of the breast and face. Dr. Gouverne introduced tumescent and ultrasonic liposuction to Corpus Christi, greatly enhancing its safety. He also offers the first office-based cosmetic surgery operating room facility in Corpus Christi. Cosmetic surgery techniques are constantly evolving, and Dr. Gouverne remains at the forefront of these developments.
Dr. Gouverne is one of only a few plastic surgeons in Corpus Christi who are members of The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. ASAPS membership requires certification by The American Board of Plastic Surgeons and signifies that a surgeon devotes a substantial portion of his or her professional efforts to the refinement of aesthetic techniques. Since 1993, Dr. Gouverne has also maintained an active membership with the American Society of Plastic Surgeons®, or ASPS. Since its founding in 1931, ASPS has aimed to improve the care of plastic surgery patients by setting high standards of behavior and practice in the field. ASPS requires each of its member surgeons to operate in accredited surgical centers. Dr. Gouverne's work has even been featured in the national media. In 1996, Dr. Gouverne was listed on "The Best Doctors in America," an independently organized list designed to highlight doctors who have been chosen by their peers for outstanding levels of care.
Since 2001, Dr. Gouverne has performed cosmetic procedures in our on-site surgical center that's certified by the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities, or AAAASF®. AAAASF certification requires a surgical facility to maintain rigorous national standards of cleanliness and safety. To keep its certification, Dr. Gouverne's surgical center must undergo thorough, routine inspections to ensure that patient safety is the practice's first priority.
