Why Implants through the umbilicus is risky

In the last 6 months my office is getting more and more calls from women that have developed significant problems with this new method of breast enlargement. They all have the same problems.

They had breast augmentation through their belly button
They rapidly developed displacement of the implants
They returned to have this problem fixed with additional surgery
In spite of further operations they were left with additional poor aesthetics

As you can see in the pictures below the implants have slipped below the normal confines of the breast in spite of revision surgery. Notice that her right nipple is almost entirely above her breast mount, and the implant is now nearly in front of her abdomen. What you can’t see is the almost transparent nature of her breasts showing waviness and wrinkling.

The problem lies with the technique. Thin patients with small breast should have the implants placed below the chest muscle. Poor results can follow if this is ignored. Very few patients are candidates for implant placement above the muscle.

There are solutions for this patient but it will require more surgery with more extensive external scars. This girl has already had three operations.
