Plastic surgeons have always had difficulty in defining the amount of aging in the face. Intuitively we were always able to document mild to severe changes, but we had trouble putting a quantitative value on these subjective judgments. Recently researchers completed some very elegant studies using casts of the wrinkles and creases and correlating these with a series of photographs. They were able to develop a high degree of correlation between the subjective impressions in the photographs and the objective measurements of the wrinkle casts. We can now use a scale ranging from 0-5 to grade the amount of facial aging. Examples of facelifts
